about the land

Preserving Cultural Significance
The Coorong Lakes site, where the preservation efforts are focused, holds profound cultural significance. Here, the land and its custodians share an inseparable bond. The preservation efforts align with the rich history of the Ngarrindjeri custodians, aiming to transition ownership back to the traditional custodians of the land over time.

Despite initial challenges, including the site's previous use as a potential grazing ground that threatened delicate ecosystems, Wilderlands has successfully transformed the Coorong Lakes project into a beacon of conservation. Today, it provides a sanctuary for numerous species and vital ecosystem services.
"If we don't protect the land now, then it will be lost forever. Every element on this land shares a profound connection, linking the land to its people" - Ash Knop, Wilderlands CEO
